About Bill Casey

Bill Casey was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and Engineering Diploma.

Mr. Casey has an extensive experience in private business and has served as Member of Parliament.

His business experience includes operating his own automotive, housing, investment and hospitality businesses.

​

His political career spanned from 1988 to 2019 and included seven successful elections to the Parliament of Canada.   As a Member of Parliament, he served on the Standing Committee on Industry Science and Technology for several years and also on Transportation and Foreign Affairs and International Trade Committees.  As a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs,  he dealt with several global issues including a focus on Middle East concerns.

Bill was elected Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health from 2015 to 2019 and oversaw legislation including the legalization of medical assisted dying, legalization of cannabis and many other controversial issues.

Mr. Casey served as the Senior Representative of the New Democratic Government of Nova Scotia in Ottawa from 2009 until May 2012. In this position, Mr. Casey raised provincial government issues of concern to the appropriate federal government ministers and officials. He also made contacts with the diplomatic community to promote Nova Scotia businesses and resources to foreign embassies.

Mr. Casey lives in Amherst where he provides advice and direction to several business and community organizations. He is married to Rosemary and they have three grown children, Michael, Holly, and Allison. And they have three grand children Willow, Jasper and Autumn.

Bill’s hobbies are tinkering with old cars and boats. He likes to cut bushes and make trails in the back fields. He never has enough buoys.
