Biography

Bill Casey was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on February 19, 1945. He is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and holds a Bachelor of Science and Engineering Diploma.

Prior to his political career, Bill Casey was involved in many business ventures.

He built and operated two tourist restaurants and gift shops; one in Nova Scotia and one in New Brunswick.

Bill Casey owned and operated Bill Casey Pontiac Buick and Bill Casey Ford Mercury with outlets in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick for 18 years. He was awarded the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award for Canada in 1987 for exemplifying high standards. Awarded once a year, this is the highest award for a car dealer in Canada.

Casey also established and opened a manufactured house factory in Amherst that had dealerships in all four Atlantic Provinces.

Bill Casey was first elected to the House of Commons in 1988. After the 1993 election he returned to his business career and became a Financial Advisor and Stock Broker with Merrill Lynch, where he operated the Amherst, Nova Scotia office.

Casey regained his former seat in the House of Commons in the 1997 election with an 8,000 vote majority. He was appointed Transport Critic and Foreign Affairs Critic for the P.C. Party.

Bill Casey was re-elected in 2000 and was appointed critic for Foreign Affairs and International Trade. In that capacity he acted not only as an Opposition critic, but also as an activist for diplomacy in troubled regions of the world. Late he was appointed Deputy Whip of the Conservative Party of Canada.

In June of 2004, Mr. Casey was re-elected and he also was sent back to the House of Commons following the January 2006 election.

More recently, constituents in Cumberland Colchester Musquodoboit Valley renewed their confidence in Casey by sending him back to Ottawa on October 14, 2008. During the 2008 election process, Casey captured a large majority, with 69.0% of the vote.

Casey has a passion for foreign affairs and has travelled extensively throughout the Middle East and continues to be active on Middle East issues. He worked with the Speakers of the House of the Israeli Knesset and the Palestinian Parliament to bring MPs to Canada to discuss peace in the Middle East. 

Bill is married to Rosemary. They have three adult children; Michael, Holly and Allison.
