December 17, 2002
Ottawa – Bill Casey, Member of Parliament for Cumberland Colchester, received a notice from Ronald Russell, the Minister of Transportation, that signage will be provided for Barrachois Harbour near Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. Although the Harbour has continued to grow and now has a total of almost 90 boats birthed full time. There, previously, was no signage indicating the location of the Harbour, and it was not even located on the Travelways tourist map.
A short time ago, the Honourable Rodney MacDonald, the Minister of Tourism and Culture, indicated that it would be put on the map of the 2003 season, and this indication from the Department of Transport, that the signage will be placed at the junction of Jeff Ross Road and Trunk 6 will also help to bring recognition to this busy little Harbour.
These measures are two of several measures intended to try to upgrade the visibility of the Harbour. Other issues relate to marine safety with navigational aides and dredging, and those are ongoing. For your information, enclosed is a copy of the letter from Mr. Russell.
