June 12, 2007
Dear Constituents,
When I stood up in the House of Commons on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 and voted against the Government’s budget because it would change Nova Scotia’s Atlantic Accord, I never expected the outpouring of support that I have received from both constituents and well-wishers from all corners of Canada.
My offices in Amherst, Truro and Ottawa have been flooded with telephone calls from constituents supporting my decision to vote against the budget. I have received over 1,000 emails and letters and they are still coming in. I have been reading each message and plan to respond to each and every one.
At the time of the vote, I knew my decision meant the end of sitting as a Conservative, although I had hoped I would have the opportunity to present my views in caucus before being expelled. This did not happen, but I am very happy to sit as an Independent Progressive Conservative.
Although I am now an Independent MP, I still have the same staff and tools to work with that I have always had and I intend to continue representing the concerns of the constituents of Cumberland Colchester Musquodoboit Valley and all Nova Scotians in the House of Commons.
Your overwhelming support over the past few weeks is heartening to both me and my family during this time of change.
Sincerely,
Bill Casey, M.P. Cumberland Colchester Musquodoboit Valley
