Barrachois makes the mark on the Scenic Travelways Map

November 15, 2002

Ottawa - Bill Casey, M.P. Cumberland Colchester recently contacted the Nova Scotia Minister of Tourism regarding the growth of Port Barrachois, requesting that it be added to the annual provincial tourism map.

Bill Langille, MLA for the area and Casey were pleased to recently learn that their request has been granted and Port Barrachois will find itself highlighted on the map.  The map, which is distributed to visitors of the Province, will be produced in February of 2003.

Casey continues to pressure the Department of Fisheries Oceans for a commitment to upgrading the Port through placement of additional, lighted navigational aides in the harbour, funding for a new heavy-duty winch and dredging the harbour.  There was a time when approximately10 permanent boats used the harbour, that number has increased significantly to 100 vessels

Casey says, “I believe this is only the first step in sharing with others the well kept secret of Barrachois.  Community efforts have resulted in the creation of a wonderful port, and I am hopeful that its prosperity will continue to grow.”
